I often ask myself if
GMO's are supposedly so safe (according to Monsanto and others that have tampered with our crops by genetically modifying them with toxic or
allergen causing chemicals like Roundup®), why does Monsanto's UK facility serve no GMO foods in their corporate dining rooms? Here's a list of the top six major players in agricultural genetic
engineering in the private sector. Many of them have extensive plant breeding
operations across the world, and then add transgenic traits to the varieties
they breed.
By 2012, 88 percent of corn (maize) and 94 percent of soy grown in the United States were genetically modified, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
- Monsanto (NYSE: MON)

GE crops in the world.
- Pioneer Hi-Bred International is based

- Syngenta AG (NYSE:SYT)
is based in Basel, Switzerland.
- Dow Agrosciences is based in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Dow Agrosciences is a subsidiary of Dow Chemical (NYSE:DOW).
- BASF (OTC:BASFY) is
based in Ludwigshafen, Germany. While primarily a chemical company, they
are rapidly expanding their biotechnology division.
- Bayer Cropscience is based in
Monheim, Germany. Bayer Cropscience is a subsidiary of Bayer (OTC:BAYRY).

Why have these companies
spent millions to stifle labeling? The answer may be fear, ignorance, and/or
greed. And more to the point, why don’t more consumers use the power of their
buck and wisdom to influence what’s sold and outlawed in our markets? Call or
email your public officials, the FDA, and research facilities to state your
views that these items need to be pulled from the shelves until proper research proves or disproves their merit. I for one do not want to die from this type of food poisoning.
You have
the right to know what you’re eating and it is essential to support legislation
that at the minimum requires genetically modified foods sold in the U.S. to
carry a mandatory label. Contact your food merchants, shops, and restaurants
and express. Take a leap into sanity and shun those establishments that are not willing to take
steps to change.
